If you’re looking at all the Rosetta Stone Reviews available, you’ll find out pretty quickly that it’s an application designed for homeschooling and individual study. Why somebody might think it’s a good idea to use it for classroom studies, it’s beyond my comprehension.
My school made a big investment and purchased a lot of licenses to help foreign language courses. After that, they realized we didn’t have enough computers, since language classes frequently overlapped computer literacy classes, so they bought more computers and set up a second laboratory for their use.
Now, of course, after a lot of money was spent, we, the teachers, are forced to use Rosetta Stone in class. It’s a good product and a good approach – but it’s clearly not what I need for my teaching purposes. Classes are supposed to be interactive, with children talking to each other, not to a computer screen. We’ll raise generations who can’t tie their shoelaces, but can hack into a NASA server in an hour.
